Welcome to Monsoon Games
Here at Monsoon Games we believe two things:
1. Much as we respect board games that are out-and-out skill based, such as chess, or else totally random luckfests a la snakes and ladders, most of us prefer to play games that combine a good dose of strategy with just enough luck to tip the balance at any stage of the game... so that anyone can win, no matter how doomed to defeat they thought they were.
2. While enjoying time with family or friends is reason enough to pull out a good board game, how much better would it be to learn all sorts of interesting things about this amazing world we live in at the same time? A lot better, we think..
And so, Monsoon Games has come into being. Our brains department has dreamed up all manner of games that would have you trading slaves for salt in ancient Africa, defending Beijing from fierce Mongolian hordes, or else building the economies of real-life countries across the globe whilst trying not to deplete scarce resources.
First out of the blocks is Mt Kilajava, which sets the tone for the games that will follow if the public takes to it with sufficient zeal. Mt Kilajava invites you to grow coffee on a remote volcano, an arduous business in the face of unenviable odds. It highlights, in its subtle way, the plight of millions of the world's coffee growers, and draws attention to the unfair nature of global trade and the need we see for a more caring, more humanised trading system that helps to protect farmers who live in poverty throughout the world but who deserve so much more in return for all their hard work.
